Boundaries, Intimacy, & Consent

Workshop Block A: 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Facilitator: Emily Barasch
Location: Stage

This workshop will cover the fundamentals of informed consent, establishing boundaries, and coordinating intimacy. We will pay specific attention to understanding what an Intimacy Coordinator is (and is not), and knowing when to bring one into a project, SAG Guidelines & Protocols for Filming Intimacy, understanding nudity riders, and chains of reporting on set. My classes seek to embolden artists with the skills needed to efficiently and effectively stage intimacy, violence, and sensitive content.

Emily Barasch is a choreographer, intimacy professional, and educator for dance, theater, film, and television. Emily comes to the field of intimacy work with over a decade of professional choreography and dance experience. With this background, she brings a complex understanding of directing bodies in space to her intimacy work. Her approach is extremely collaborative, often viewing herself as a translator between the director's vision and the actors’ boundaries. She facilitates an environment of informed consent and safety while staging and filming scenes of intimacy, nudity, sexual violence, and trauma. She specializes in LGBTQ representation and sexuality.
