California Arts Council Grant Applications Open!

SIX programs are currently accepting applications! As a result of increased state arts funding, CAC will award more grants this year than they have in 13 years! On top of that, the maximum grant request amount has increased in nearly all programs.

The following grant programs are currently accepting applications:

ARTISTS ACTIVATING COMMUNITIES: Up to $18,000 for artist residencies in community settings.

ARTISTS IN SCHOOLS: Up to $18,000 supporting students' overall well-being and academic achievement through arts engagement. New categories offered this year supporting PreK, field trips, afterschool and summer programs!

CREATIVE CALIFORNIA COMMUNITIES: Up to $50,000 a year for small and mid-sized organizations and up to $75,000 a year for large organizations to support collaborative creative placemaking projects. Now a two-year grant program!

LOCAL IMPACT: Up to $18,000 for arts projects in underserved communities.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND CONSULTING: $1,000-$5,000 for capacity-building professional development or consulting projects for arts organizations.

STATEWIDE AND REGIONAL NETWORKS: Up to $30,000 to support culturally-specific, multicultural, and discipline-based statewide and regional arts networks and service organizations.

In July 2013, the California Arts Council received $2 million in savings from the 2013 State Assembly operating budget. The funds, directed to support arts and arts education programs in California communities via grants or direct services, must be encumbered during the 2013-2014 fiscal year and will not be used for administrative costs at the agency.

The Community Foundation Serving the Counties of Riverside and San Bernardino (TCF) received funding from The James Irvine Foundation for the Arts Regranting Program/ Inland Empire (ARPIE) which will provide risk capital to small and micro arts organizations in the two-county region to experiment with arts engagement activities. The Arts Program goal is to promote engagement in the arts for all Californians: Arts engagement that embraces and advances the diverse way that we experience the arts and that strengthens our ability to thrive together in a dynamic and complex social environment. The regranting funds are for small arts organizations in the Inland Empire (note that Mountain Regions and High Desert areas can also apply) to experiment with new approaches to arts engagement. Grants are intended as risk-capital for very small arts organizations, agencies, art collectives and groups to pilot projects that focus on

1) reaching low-income and/or ethnically diverse populations that have been traditionally underserved by nonprofit arts organizations,

2) offering active engagement in the arts in which participants are making or practicing art, and/or

3) using nontraditional arts venues such as churches, store fronts and shopping malls, or open lots and other spaces not typically designated for arts use that are easily accessible and familiar to the public.
