This position is a Chaffey College Short-Term Worker 6: $13/hr.  This position is a Short-Term position for one year maximum without the possibility to repeat (September – June 30).


Chaffey College invites applications for a Short-Term Hourly Gallery Assistant to work at the Wignall Museum of Contemporary Art at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga.  This position will assist with museum customer service, security and general operations.  The employee will often be asked to operate without direct supervision.  This position is primarily a Saturday only position.  Additional irregular shifts may become available to assist with exhibition installations and de-installations as needed.  This position will require a limited paid introductory period sometime during the weekday museum office hours to familiarize with the institution, job duties and expectations.  




Verbal and written English fluency

Customer service and interpersonal interaction

Monitoring the galleries to ensure the safety of artworks

Monitoring the museum lobby and front desk

Telephone answering and message taking

General office procedures with minimal typing and keyboarding

Knowledge of contemporary art is preferred

Familiarity with artistic practices is preferred


Candidates should be:

Reliable, punctual and available to work in Rancho Cucamonga on Saturdays from 11:30-4pm

Careful and observant of the safety of artworks

Able to work independently, with limited supervision

Able to respect a diverse range of personalities, backgrounds and viewpoints

Resourceful, creative and able to problem solve

Interested in working for a college museum that presents contemporary art exhibitions


Other desirable skills and tasks may include: 

Handling, packing and hanging artwork

Painting walls and exhibition furniture

Construction (temporary walls and other installation construction)

Fabrication of exhibition furniture (pedestals and shelves, as needed)

Setting up audio and/or video equipment

Installing gallery didactics and graphics

Lighting of artworks 



$13 per hour 

4.5 hours per day weekly during exhibitions


Anticipated work schedule:

September 12 – November 21 (Saturday)

January 16 – March 12 (Saturday)

April 16 – May 7 (Saturday)

Possible additional hours in June 2016
