Harrison House Arts & Ecology Center Tour - $ 25 - Post-conference event

Harrison House Arts & Ecology Tour

Harrison House, at its inception, was a place for music and art, but the path towards including ecology was a natural one.  The desert is ground zero for climate change and as artists we are creative problem solvers.  Without life there is no art!  How do we learn to eat, survive and thrive in a dryland environment?

This site explores the relationship between people and their physical surroundings and how to regenerates the earth by design: creating environments that work in concert with nature (permaculture)) eating what grows here (native foods growth and propagation) and repurposing materials (assemblage art).

This tour will begin at the "Welcome Center" with two short films about the creation of on site work by artists Dominique Moody and Mark Bulwinkle, followed by a tour that includes the new sunken green house for native plants, the natural building of the "super adobe Kiva" made from earth bags, Damian Lester's elegant system of earth works that streams every inch of rain water from one deep tree basin to the next and crossing the road we will pass through the Harrison gate made from repurposed San Francisco/Oakland Bay Bridge steel and on to visiting the many food bearing plantings.

We believe that art is a part of daily life, therefore when we dedicated the grounds we called it our Arts & Ecology site.
